Muliadi Widjaja received  his PhD degree in Economics and Public Finance from Georgia State University, USA, in January 2008. Much of his research is in the area of Public Finance and Social Security. He has published in several international journal, such as Pensions: An Internasional Journal (Palgrave McMillan Publication), The Asean Economic Bulletin (ISEAS Singapore Publication) and Economics and Finance in Indonesia (University of Indonesia Publication). He has been consultant to several Indonesian Government insitutions: Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Directorate of Fiscal Policy of Ministry of Finance (BKF-Badan kebijakan Fiskal), Directorate of Supervision of Securities Market and Non-Bank Financial Institution (Badan Pengawas Pasar Modal dan lembaga Keuangan-Bapepam LK),  Ministry of Planning and Development Agency (Badan Perencanan Pembangunan Nasional -Bappenas). He also has been serving as a consultant for Oxford Policy Management, UK.  In  addition, Dr. Widjaja has also participated in many international seminars as well.

Currently, Dr. Widjaja works as a lecturer at the Deparment of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia. His area of teaching is Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Public Finance, and Social Protection. In addition, Dr. Widjaja is a research associate to Centre for Ageing and Development Studies, University of Indonesia.
