Abstrak Dalam makalah ini dipresentasikan perancangan modulator fiber optik 1.55 um berbasis elektroabsorpsi MQW AlGaSb / GaSb jenis waveguide yang memanfaatkan struktur simetrik resonator Fabry-Perrot. Berbeda dengan struktur modulator tipe tranversal yang eksis di pasar, dimana struktur resonator Fabry-Perrot adalah dalam bentuk cermin Bragg yang asimetrik yang tersusun atas lapisan-lapisan tipis film, sedangkan pada modulator tipe waveguide ini strukturnya adalah resonator Fabry-Perrot yang simetrik dengan reflektor berupa distribusi grating. Keuntungan dari modulator optik tipe waveguide ini dibandingkan dengan struktur tranversal yang eksis adalah peningkatan pada rasio on/off dan selanjutnya akan mudah diintegrasikan dengan laser semikonduktor dan amplifier optik semiconduktor yang dibangun diatas substrat GaSb yang sama. Paper ini memberikan kontribusi yang nyata pada perancangan modulator fiber-optik berbasis elektroabsorpsi.
