Selain bekerja
sebagai dosen tidak tetap dan peneliti pada Program Pascasarjana Kajian
Pengembangan Perkotaan Universitas Indonesia (UI), Andy adalah seorang
perencana kota dan wilayah bersertifikat IAP-LPJKN. Setelah lulus dari Jurusan
Planologi ITB tahun 2001 dan program magister Kajian Pengembangan Perkotaan
(KPP) UI tahun 2006 dengan predikat Cum
Laude
, beliau melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang S3 pada bidang fenomenologi
perencanaan di Fakultas Filsafat, Universitat Bonn, Jerman sejak akhir tahun
2011 sampai dengan saat ini. Spesialisasi bidang keahliannya adalah perencanaan
tata ruang, pengembangan komunitas perkotaan, kebijakan pembangunan kawasan
perkotaan, perencanaan adaptasi dan mitigasi perubahan iklim, dan pengurangan
risiko bencana. Dia juga aktif tercatat dalam kepengurusan Ikatan Ahli
Perencana (IAP) Indonesia pada periode 2007-2010 dan 2010-2013 sebagai ketua
Divisi Penelitian, Pelatihan, dan Pengembangan Profesi, namun karena tugas
belajar, dia mengundurkan diri pada awal tahun 2012. Salah satu kontribusinya
di IAP adalah membangun sistem pendidikan keprofesian secara berkelanjutan (continuous professional development)
untuk meningkatkan kapasitas dan daya saing perencana Indonesia.  Selain itu, beliau juga seringkali diundang
sebagai pembicara maupun narasumber untuk acara konferensi internasional dan
seminar nasional maupun wawancara di media massa nasional. Beberapa penghargaan
yang diterima antara lain lulusan terbaik program pascasarjana KPP Universitas
Indonesia 2006/2007; penerima beasiswa unggulan DIKTI 2011; penerima research grant di bulan Agustus 2012 serta
training grants di bulan Februari,
2009 dan Maret, 2011 dari International START; penerima conference grants dari UEM-AIT Thailand, Agustus 2006; SEA-SARCS
