Dr. Maddaremmeng A Panennungi S.E menyelesaikan pendidikan S1 nya di FEUI pada tahun 1997. Selanjutnya menyelesaikan S3 pada tahun 2004 di kampus yang sama.
Karir beliau dimulai pada tahun 1996 dengan menjadi peneliti bagi LPEM FEUI dan 1997 menjadi asisten pengajar di FEUI. Selama di LPEM FEUI, selain melakukan penelitian, beliau juga mengajar pada berbagai Diklat (Pendidikan dan Latihan) yang dilakukan LPEM FEUI baik pesertanya dari pemerintah pusat, pemerintah daerah, maupun dari swasta dengan berbagai mata ajaran seperti Investasi, Kebijakan Ekonomi, Kemiskinan, Ketenagakerjaan, dan sebagainya. Sementara di FEUI mengajar berbagai mata kuliah antara lain: Perekonomian Indonesia, Ekonomi Internasional, Ekonomi Pembangunan, Makroekonomi, dan sebagainya.
Beberapa penelitian yang pernah dilakukan beliau diantaranya adalah Regional autonomy and Decentralization (JICA, 2002), Energy Policy Reform: Policy Strategy Study for Promoting Sustainable Development of Indonesian Geothermal Energy (EAPO, 2002), Poverty Alleviation in the Decentralization Era (LPEM FEUI), Study of the Feasibility Dermaga Baruna Jaya (BPPT, 1997), Incentive System for the Development of the Underdeveloped Region in Indonesia (Bappenas, 1996), Indonesia Rural Investment Climate Survey (World Bank,2006), Visi Indonesia 2030 dan Visi Perdagangan Internasional Indonesia 2030 (Indoforum,2007),Sumatera Investment Climate Survey (Asian Development Bank, 2008), dan sebagainya.
Sejak 2009, beliau menjadi Dosen Inti Penelitian FEUI hingga sekarang. Selain itu juga diberikan kepercayaan untuk mengembangkan Pusat Kajian APEC UI (APEC Study Centre University of Indonesia atau ASCUI dalam www.asc.ui.ac.id) sejak 2010.
