Miftah has been working at the Department of Law, Society, and Development at the Faculty of Law University of Indonesia since 2011. During the period from 2010 to 2014, he has worked at the Association of Law and Society Studies (PUSAKA), the Indonesian Centre for Law and Policy Studies (PSHK), The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Indonesia, and the Journal of Law and Development (JHP) -- where he started shaping interests in theory and practice of legislation and legislative drafting.

Up to 2016, He has worked at the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) where he was involved in the regulatory impact analysis (RIA) and regulatory reform programs, and legal analysis of various development projects — National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD), high-speed rail project, etc — as well as legal analysis of Sustainable Development Goals.

From 2017 to 2022, Miftah has been worked for the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) as the legal expert for regulatory impact analysis as well as for BAPPENAS as the legal expert and legislative drafter in the National Capital City Relocation Plan (UU IKN) and the legal expert and legislative drafter in the revision of Law regarding the National Development Planning System (UU SPPN). He is also frequently hired by the Provincial Government of Jakarta Special Capital Region as a legal expert and resource person on legislative drafting and various urban law and local governance matters.

He received a master of science degree in sociology (specialization in economic sociology) — with a thesis on the social and institutional context of information technology startup companies in Bandung, West Java — and a bachelor of laws degree (specialization in law, society, and development) from the University of Indonesia.
