Sulastri was born in 25th July 1965. She obtained her bachelor degree in sociology from Department of Sociology, University of Indonesia and gained her master degree from psychology graduate study program, University of Indonesia, majoring at Industrial and organizational psychology. She started her career in University of Indonesia in August 1987 and responsible as a lecturer assistant in Introduction to Sociology, Social Systems of Indonesia, Social Psychology and Social demography. She also became a lecturer assistant for Social Research Methods. She involves in teaching and grading, organizing student field work activities, data analysis and report writing.

Sulastri also involved in research activity at laboratory of sociology in 1992 to 1993 as a junior researcher. She was responsible for preparing research instruments, recruitment and training for the interviewers, organizing data collection and assisted on analysis and report writing for research projects, including organizing workshops and seminars carried out by the institution. She also has published various publications such as“Kesinambungan, Perubahan dan Perempuan dalam Dunia Laki-laki” in Perempuan Indonesia Dulu dan kini (Indonesian Version, Jakarta: PT. Gramedia Pustaka Utama (1996), English version “Continuity, Change, and Women in a Men’s World” in Indonesian Women: Journey Continues, Australia: Social Research Center, Australian National University (2000), a joint article with Mayling Oey-Gardiner in 1996. To gain more experience, she joined The Netherlands Government Scholarship for Professional Management Training, International Training Center for Women, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, April-October 1998. Presently, she is a member of professional societies, Indonesian Sociologist Association.
